Florida's First Coast

The First Coast is one of Florida's most beautiful and diverse regions. It is also one of its fastest growing and most business friendly. Driving south along the east coast on Interstate 95 it begins as soon as the Georgia state line is crossed. It follows the coast past the spectacular resort island of Amelia, through thriving Jacksonville and opulent Ponte Vedra to its southernmost point just south of St. Augustine, our nation's oldest city. It also extends west to include high growth Clay County and its thriving town of Orange Park.

Jacksonville is at the heart of Florida's First Coast. Located in Northeast Florida at the crossroads of two interstate highways, Jacksonville is the largest U.S city in land area, the state's financial and insurance center, and a major port. It is also home to the National Football League's Jacksonville Jaguars and was the site of 2005's Super Bowl XXXIX.The city of Jacksonville ranks as the 14 th largest in the country with a population of more than 800,000.

The Jacksonville metropolitan area, also known as Florida's First Coast, consists of Duval, Clay, Baker, Nassau and St. Johns counties and has a population of nearly 1.3 million residents. This area centers on Jacksonville extending 35 miles north to Amelia Island / Fernandina Beach and 30 miles south to historic St. Augustine.

St. Augustine founded in 1565, is steeped in history and has many museums, galleries ands quaint shops. Even if history is not a center of interest, visitors cannot help but appreciate the rich heritage that makes our nation's oldest city so unique.

Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island is located at the Northeastern most tip of Florida situated just a stone's throw south of Georgia's Cumberland Island. Fernandina Beach is a town combining Victorian homes & Bed & Breakfast Inns with an active beach and nightlife. It has a rich history and is the nation's only city to have been governed under eight different flags at various times. Amelia Island is also home to the world class resorts of Amelia Island Plantation and the Ritz Carlton/Summer Beach.

Just south of Jacksonville are the beach towns of Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and finally, Ponte Vedra. Each has its own attractions and Ponte Vedra is especially known for award winning resorts, tennis academies and golf courses. The Tour Players Championship golf tournament is played every March at the TPC course in Ponte Vedra.

Florida's First Coast is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. It contains 68 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline, 300 miles of river and hundreds of acres of marsh and wetlands. Many of the world's finest golf courses are here and it is home to both the Professional Golf Association (PGA) and World Golf Hall of Fame. With a year round fantastic climate - 4 seasons with no snow - and its low cost of living - Jacksonville is the most affordable city in Florida - and there's little wonder why the First Coast is dynamic and growing. Florida's First Coast will continue to grow as more people discover its endless opportunities and unmatched quality of life.
